Sensei Todd Kelly began his martial arts career as an adult.
Having been trained in basic hand-to-hand combat techniques as a
United States Marine, he knew the benefit of being able to protect
himself with his hands alone.  He is currently a 2nd Degree Black
Belt (Nidan) in the Zen-Do Kai organization.

Todd trained under third-degree Zen-Do Kai black belts Shawn
Vicknair and Sean Brauen and received his Shodan under their
guidance as well as that of Sensei Robert Gifford.  He considered
it the ultimate honor when Sensei Gifford asked him to take over
the Safety America "Pecan Grove School," which is now known as
Lone Star Karate & Self-Defense.

Sensei Kelly has competed in the A.O.K. tournament league,
winning multiple trophies in sparring, kata, and weapons, and was
certified as an A.O.K. judge.  Sensei Kelly won in all divisions in
the Gulf Coast Karate League, in 2007, and he continues to
compete in all divisions of the Professional Karate Commission.

Sensei considers himself fortunate to have trained with renowned
martial artists from across the country and around the world
including: Tokey Hill (U.S. National Team Coach), Roker Gracie
(Brazil), Raffi Pambuan, Johnny Kennedy (New Zealand), Leo
Xavier, and Michael Campos (Martial Arts Hall of Fame inductee).

In addition to Sensei Kelly, there are a number of black belts who
have trained in the Zen-Do Kai system who regularly provide
instruction at Lone Star.  It is this mix of quality instruction which
provides depth and variety to the school, which is so lacking in
some martial arts experiences.
